Moving Inward
by Eli Pechman (Mystic Circuits)
This video pack revolves around a wave-folder slowly scrolling a diamond ramp, providing the main modulation for the patches. The effect this creates is a simulation of symmetry and of the shapes folding into the center of the image, causing the image to "move inward". This shape is then fed into two video oscillators which are colorized by a Mystic Circuits Tree and a Mystic Circuits Ana. While it would be easy to make this into a metaphor it is Eli's firm belief that abstract art should exist for its own sake to be interpreted or simply enjoyed by the viewer.
About the Artist:
Eli Pechman is the creative origin of Mystic Circuits, an electronics company that aims to explore new possibilities in synthesis. Eli's interest in video synthesis started in college using computer based feedback to create colorful geometries. Since moving into hardware Mystic Circuits has made a few video-friendly modules with a planned video-rate oscillator on the horizon. Despite its limitations Eli firmly believes that analog video synthesis is fertile ground for exploring new visual possibilities.
Please enjoy this video pack and let Eli know if you used it for anything that you would like to show off. If you appreciate the work that went into this please consider donating to the Navajo & Hopi COVID-19 Relief Fund. They are doing some amazing work in a very underserved part of the country.
